Rise of the Tomb Raider - Review

Hey guys! Welcome back to another post in The Games Insiders!! Where today we are going to be talking about Square Enix's best game the Rise of the Tomb Raider. The reason why I am reviewing this game today is not that this is the best Square Enix game, but because there is a new Tomb Raider game called the Shadow of the Tomb Raider. From the Tomb Raider game in the PS3 there has been a new Tomb Raider franchise, and I have played every single one of them and I can't wait for the new game! Anyways, I will be reviewing the Rise of the Tomb Raider, and there will be a follow-up post discussing the Rise of the Tomb Raider VS Uncharted 4. Without any farther to do let's start today's AMAZING post!!!

About/Info

The Rise of the Tomb Raider is an action-adventure game developed by Crystal Dynamics and was published by Square Enix. It is the sequel of the 2013's Tomb Raider and is the 11th installment in the Tomb Raider series. The Rise of the Tomb Raider closely follows the ending of the last Tomb Raider game, so it is recommended to play that game before you play this one. This game is released for the PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, MacOS, and Linux. It sold nearly 7 million copies in its first month, and many people have liked this game because of it's graphics and it's great story.

This game is a third-person action-adventure game and you control a character named Lara Croft. Combat and stealth are very important in this game, and if you don't use it then well... you are probably going to die. If you are planning to die, please subscribe to us before you die. Thank you.

Gameplay

The Rise of the Tomb Raider is an action-adventure game played from a third-person perspective. You control Lara Croft, who is basically a female version of Nathan Drake from the Uncharted series minus his humor and plus more skills. Basically, you are on a quest to discover the legendary city of Kitezh with enemies trying to stop you so that they can discover it first, you know, Uncharted stuff. You also have a variety of weapons you can use including assault rifles, pistols, shotguns, and more! Some of them even have an alternate mode of firing. You can also use stealth by using weapons such
as a bow and quietly take down enemies so that other enemies can't hear you. You can also use close combat against your enemies by using stuff like a pickaxe.

You can also use the environment to fight against the enemies by for example shooting them from high ground or shooting barrels to kill the enemies. You can also use rope arrows to take down structures and stuff.

List most of the games, there is a leveling system. When you do a main mission or a side mission you would earn exp, which then you can earn a skill point. Once you earn a skill point you could use that in your skill tree. You have three types of things like most games in your skill tree. The three different types are combat, brawler, and survivor. Basically, a combat as you can guess is for weapon and combat stuff. For example, you can unlock an ability where you can retrieve arrow or make your accuracy better. You can also make your combat stronger using the combat skills. A Brawler is basically can unlock new skills such as dodging and it can boost your resilience against your enemies as well. Now the survivor might just as well be the most important skill tree in the main skill trees that you can unlock. Survivors unlock a variety of things that you weren't able to do before. For example, you can unlock bombs and traps. There are much more but I would not list all of them.

The Rise of the Tomb Raider also features a semi-open hub, which allows you to explore and collect collectibles and other different things. You can find those collectibles such as a relic using something molotovs, arrows, bullets, poison arrows, etc.
called a Survivor Instinct, which is pretty much a sensor that you can use to find stuff, which a lot of video games have like you know Far Cry Primal. Anyways by collecting these things that I told you guys about you can craft many different things such as grenades,

These places also have wildlife, so you can hunt them to craft items and gather resources. Which I think is a neat touch to the game, since most of the times I feel like there is no point in killing animals, since that is just cruel. But this game actually had a reason to kill those animals instead of ignoring those creatures.

There are so explorable tombs that players can explore and these can be quite a challenge. Anyways once you beat those tombs you are granted valuable items or outfits. You might think, what's an outfit going to do? Well, those outfits can help increase your combat performance or increase your stats. You could change your outfit in any base camps, I will talk more about that later. You could also find new skills by exploring these tombs.

Let's talk about base camps now. Base camps. Base camps are very good, you can switch outfits, and it can be used as a fast travel point. If you don't know what fast traveling is, it is when you can kind of teleport from one point to another. So for example, if you are lost in a middle of nowhere, you can fast travel to a base camp. Fast travel is allowed n places that you have been before, such as a tomb that you have completed.

There are also side missions and stuff which can help you level up and get skill points. Side missions and side quests can sometimes also give you equipment that can help you.

Players have to navigate through intricate environments most of the time, and you have to use your
pickaxe to climb certain things such as glaciers, use ropes for ziplines, etc. Climbing and stuff is a huge part of this game.

Puzzles are also a huge fundamental part of the game. There are various puzzles and one puzzle lead to another puzzle 'til the overall puzzle. These puzzles are based on real physics so there won't be any crazy physics in any puzzles that makes no sense.

That's about it folks. Let's move on to some other stuff. When I am talking about other stuff, I am talking about the story plot.

Story Plot

THE FOLLOWING CONTENT MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS - IF YOU ARE VERY SENSITIVE TO THOSE SORT OF THINGS, PLEASE SKIP TO OUR REVIEW. THANK YOU.

You all read my warning? Then let'st start.

Basically, this game sets in a time after the 2013's Tomb Raider. After when she can't explain the supernatural thing that has happened on 2013, she suffers from stress and other mental problems. To look for answers, she started looking around for her father's work about a lost city of Kitezh. Her father's partner has even warned her that this has turned her father to insane, but of course, Lara has to go and not listen to her father's partner. But the Trinity starts to hunt her so that they can find the lost city before her.

Review

I knew some people wouldn't like it if I just told you all the whole story, so I decided to make that short. Let's just talk about our review now.

The story is very well scripted, which I think it could have been a very awesome story. The game is also fun, and I really like the things that you can do, and the fact that it is an open world game. The game has great action moments and it is very dramatic. The gameplay is also great and it isn't an extremely difficult game, but it can get hard.

However, there are some downsides to this. The story is sometimes is less engaging than the previous Tomb Raider game, and climbing all the time can get kind of frustrating. It also felt kind of awkward to leave places and then return back to collect some collectibles.

But overall, The Rise of the Tomb Raider is a great game, with great graphics and story, but it can get a little boring. But apart from that, this game is my favorite Square Enix game of all time, and it could have been the Game of the Year if there wasn't Fallout 4.
